Have you ever seen a quilt pattern that you love but wonder what it would look like in different colors? I do all the time. I’m never quite sure if what I end up choosing will look right and the result is the project ends up not getting made because I don’t want to take a chance.
I wanted to see how easy it would be to design something. First, I logged into my AccuQuilt account (it’s easy to set one up if you don’t have one). After logging in, there are many options to choose from: difficulty level, technique, type of fabric cutter, and type of project. There is also a search option.
I narrowed the selection by choosing my fabric cutter (AccuQuilt's GO! Big), then I selected the pattern Charm-Squares to GO! Lap Quilt. I clicked on “customize”, then got to make it my own. I decided I wanted to upload some of my fabric stash. If you don’t have any pictures available, you can pick from hundreds of colors or some of the pre-loaded manufacturer fabrics.
It was very easy to place my color/fabric choices. When I was finally satisfied with my choices, I saved the file in my GO! Quilt account - that way I can access it whenever I want. The accompanying pattern was available to print immediately or at a later date. I knew exactly how much fabric I would need, which dies would be needed, and exactly how to cut the fabric.
I love that AccuQuilt has come up with this option. Using this tool will allow you to better utilize your current dies - and maybe help you realize when it's time to invest in a new one! The interface is very user-friendly and there are many options available. New patterns are being added all the time. Make sure you check back often to see what inspires you!
