Hello! It's Kristina from Center Street Quilts and I'm here to share with you a fast and easy Christmas garland idea.

A Perfect Christmas Craft for Kids

My kids are always asking to be involved in my sewing projects. While that's just not always feasible, this easy Christmas lights garland is a great project for little hands! In fact, two of my girls (ages 5 and 9) helped me out a lot with this fun decoration!

Materials Needed:

  • Bright colors of felt for Christmas lights (red, green, white, yellow, blue, and orange)
  • Gray felt for bulb base
  • Polyfill stuffing
  • Bakers twine (10-foot length)

Dies Needed:

Cutting Instructions

1. Using the GO! Crazy Petals Die and the bright felt, cut out a total of (36) of the large petal (lightbulb) shape. Cut the colors in multiples of two so the front and the back of each of the (18) lightbulbs are the same color (I cut six large petals from each of the six colors for a total of (36) lightbulb shapes cut).

2. Using the GO! Strip Cutter-1", and the gray felt, cut out a 1" strip. Subcut into 1" x 3/4" rectangles. Repeat to cut a total of (36) 1" x 3/4" rectangles.

Assembling Instructions

1. Gather two lightbulb shapes of the same felt color and place them wrong sides together. Sew the two felt shapes together, staying 1/8" inside the edge of the shapes and leaving a small, 1/4"-1/2" hole at the top curved part of the bulb.

2. Stuff the lightbulb with a little polyfill stuffing. Little hands are GREAT at doing this step!

3. Sandwich the opening to the bulb with the two pieces of gray felt and sew around the edges of the gray felt using a 1/8" seam. I added some horizontal lines to my bulb bases to mimic the screw threads.

4. Using a needle and baker's twine, thread the felt lightbulb bases onto the twine. The lightbulbs should be able to be gently pulled along the twine to adjust the spacing.

Of course, your strand of Christmas lights could include more or fewer bulbs, but will be darling either way! Hang the garland from your mantle, or make several strands to adorn your Christmas tree.
