RJR Fabrics: A Retrospective 1978-Present-Part 2
Visit AccuQuilt to view 14 beautiful quilts from the designers of RJR Fabrics in our quilt gallery. This exhibit runs until July 31, 2017 and contains the works of six of RJR's most esteemed designers. There are quilts from Jinny Beyer, Judy Niemeyer, Lynette Jensen, Flaurie & Finch, Carolyn Murfitt, and Sarah Schraw.
The Quilts of Lynette Jensen
Lynette Jensen was one of the first quilt pattern designer to partner with RJR Fabrics. During her 24 year career in quilting, she has designed some of the most popular fabrics and designs in the quilting industry. Her designs reflect an upscale country feel that can easily become part of peoples' lives.
Lynette started her company, Thimbleberries, in 1987. It quickly became one of the most successful quilt pattern companies in quiltmaking. The Thimblerries Club featured Block-of-the-Month patterns that featured her signature patterns and fabrics. The club ran for more than 22 years.
After 2 1/2 years of retirement, Lynette decided to return to RJR fabrics and to designing fabrics. She says, "I have missed the connection that quilting brings and am excited to be designing again for the craft I love.
The Quilts of Lynette Jensen in her Own Words
A Quilter's Garden
"When I was asked for a quilt to feature in RJR's exhibit, I wanted to select one that would reflect the traditional design aesthetic and rich history behind my Thimbleberries brand. I chose A Quilter's Garden since it was one of the most successful fabric collections and pattern series in Thimbleberries history. The 12 block format challenged me to design 12 different blocks that represented floral blocks with traditional piecing. I began with the quilt project first and then designed the perfect floral fabrics that would beautifully enhance the quilt design. What's really unique about the quilt is that I incorporated a pre-printed faux applique panel design to give the illusion of applique. Did I trick you? It's really my favorite piece. I hope you enjoy it." Piecing by Julie Jergens. Heirloom quilting by Clarinet Howe.
Quicker By The Dozen
A Collaborative Block of the Month with Cotton + Steel
"Quicker by the Dozen demonstrates how by changing fabrics, traditional BOM designs can also appeal to the modern marketplace. Whether you are a traditional at heart or consider yourself a modern quilter, the BOM says it all by using two different fabric options. The project features a blend of traditional pieced blocks artfully arranged in a vertical row setting, a fun alternative to more traditional settings. I called this 8-month BOM "Quicker by the Dozen" because it features a dozen fabrics, and you make a dozen of each of the six different block designs. It's quick because you chain piece. Each block is made with just two fabrics, making cutting and piecing easy. The River Song version is pieced by Julie Jergens and quilted by Clarinet Howe."
Cotton + Steel is honored to be collaborating with Lynette Jensen, one of RJR Fabrics' most prolific and successful designers, to release a Block of the Month pattern called "Quicker by the Dozen." Cotton + Steel shares the belief that sewing should be accessible and inclusive. Clear instructions and well written patterns are timeless. They transcend taste and trend, and they offer a reliable resource for passing techniques on to those less experienced, regardless of anyone's individual fabric preferences, regardless of if it's Cotton + Steel or Thimbleberries. The Cotton + Steel version is pieced and quilted Alexia Abegg.
