AccuQuilt is bursting into spring with a brand new die. The GO! Basket of Lilies (55530) Block on Board or BOB die is the latest offering in the Die to Try Die of the Month series, meaning it’s only available during the month of May, or while supplies last. This die is exclusively available at AccuQuilt.com
Baskets of flowers have been popular motifs for quilt blocks over the years, and as with most vintage quilt blocks there have been multiple variations. One example is the Basket of Lilies block published by the Kansas City Star Newspaper in 1931. Other variations are known as Carolina Lilies, Mountain Lily, Prairie Lily and North Caroline Lily – to name just a few!
Well, no doubt that the quilters of days gone by would be amazed to see how quickly and accurately these blocks can be made using the GO! Basket of Lilies die. Having the ¼” seams built in and specialized dog ears make this block easier to assemble than most quilters would believe, and being able to cut the entire block in just one pass through the cutter is just the cherry on top! The specialized dog ears make lining up your pieces a snap, even the Y seams.
Don’t Fear the Y Seam
Yes, creating this beautiful block does involve sewing Y seams, but don’t let that stop you! Even if you’ve never sewn a Y seam before, you can easily conquer your fear and the seams with just a few easy steps. The key to success is marking your ¼” intersections. Check this video for all the information you need to conquer the Y!
Portrait of a Lily
The outer border treatment frames the center block perfectly in the GO! Lilies in Bloom Wall Hanging (PQ11859). With just one Basket of Lilies block to make, this pattern is a great way to get started with this new die.
Flowers All Around
See how stunning multiple blocks look together in the GO! Garden Dance Throw Quilt (PQ11857). The feeling of motion is created by turning the blocks in multiple directions to create a look that is truly timeless.
Everything Old Is New Again
This die may be a vintage quilt block, but the GO! Delicate Dozen Wall Hanging (PQ11854) shows that it creates fresh, modern projects as well. The bright batiks are grounded by the dark gray baskets for a stunning look. For detailed instructions on how to make this project, check out this video.
An English Country Garden
The GO! Field of Lilies Throw Quilt (PQ11858) turns the basket shape into urns giving the feel of a manner house in the country.
Remember, this is a limited edition, online exclusive die that will only be available during the month of May, or while supplies last, so be sure to order now while they are still in full bloom!
