Hi there, I am Emily - aka Homemade Emily Jane, a brand ambassador for AccuQuilt! Do you agree that if it weren’t for the hundreds of thousands of people who have served in the military to protect our homeland, America would not be what it is today? With Veteran’s Day right around the corner, I am reminded just how much we need to appreciate and love on the brave men and women who have served so we can live in the land of the free. Over the past few months, I've partnered with one of my favorite veterans (my mom!) to create patriotic quilts that we can use to give back to some of our country's incredible service men and women.
Quilting has a rich history filled with community, tradition and surprise, some of which we've even discussed in past blog posts. For example, did you know that while Amish quilts are popular, the Amish people were actually slow to adopt the art of quilting?
For many, Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer and picnic season. In fact, you might be one of the 60% of Americans who are planning a barbecue. Though the time with family and friends is a wonderful way to honor the federal holiday, the meaning behind it is even more important. The day is all about observing those who were lost while serving for their country. As a quilter, you're probably looking for ways to show respect and decorate your space with your talents. We've got some ideas that will do both and create moments for conversation.
The AccuQuilt Gallery welcomes Quilts of Valor, a showcase of eight quilts from the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Volunteer quilters get together to make quilts for veterans during sew-ins every first Wednesday of the month. The quilts will be on display through January 27.
