Sweetie Pie Pinwheels Table Topper - A Quilting Tutorial

Jan 27, 2016, 9:00:00 AM / by Belinda Karls-Nace

Greetings quilty friends– it’s me...Belinda from Blue Ribbon Designs, and I'm back again today with a brand new quilting tutorial. In case we haven’t already met, I'm a quilting and needlework designer, creator, finisher, and teacher (and the author of the Samplings from a Blue Ribbon Girl blog)…and a major AccuQuilt enthusiast!

Today, I am here to share my latest quilt project with you featuring the GO! Qube Mix & Match 8" Block. Have you heard about the new GO! Qubes? They are truly spectacular. Each boxed set contains eight geometric dies that make cutting a wide variety of quilt blocks extremely easy...what this means is: the GO! Qube Mix & Match 6" Block contains eight geometric dies that create more than 72 - 6" finished quilt block combinations (the 8" set makes the same plethora of quilt blocks, only with a finished size of 8"...and of course, the 9” set makes 9" finished blocks and the 12" set makes 12" finished blocks). The geometric shapes in each set include: two squares (one larger, one smaller), two half square triangles (one larger, one smaller), one quarter square triangle, one square on point, one rectangle, and one parallelogram. You can mix and match these basic geometric shapes to form an endless number of quilt blocks...and, get this, the dies even have a numbering system that makes it easy to know which shapes you need for each block pattern.

So, now that you are familiar with the GO! Qube…we are going to get started on today’s project – my “Sweetie Pie Pinwheels” (a table topper or wall hanging). With Valentine’s Day in a few short weeks, I thought it would be fun to make a new table topper, and using the GO! Qube Mix & Match 8" Block made this project quick and easy! This is a traditional piecing project based on 8” quilt blocks, but you could easily adapt this tutorial for the 6”, 9” or 12” GO! Qube (it will just change the finished size of your project). You will also want to have a GO! Qube 8" Block-72 Block Patterns Booklet handy – this FREE downloadable pattern booklet for the GO! Qube 8” will give you detailed instructions for piecing a couple of the blocks in this project (and will give you a TON of inspiration for future projects!). So go pick out some fun valentine fabrics and let’s get started…
