GO! Qube Medallion Quilt Part 2

Hi everyone! It’s Erin from House on Hill Road back today to add to the medallion quilt I started last month. I’ve designed and cut my entire throw-sized medallion quilt using my GO! Cutter and the GO! 12” Qube dies. This month, I am adding two more borders and next month, we’ll finish piecing the quilt top. If you are just joining us, please check my post from last month that shows you how to get started.

For Borders 2 and 3, you’ll need:

GO! Cutter

GO! Qube Mix and Match 12" block – 6” quarter square triangle die, 6" half square triangle die, 3” square die and the 3” x 6” rectangle die

Fabrics as indicated

Cutting Border 2

 

 

1. Using the 6” quarter square triangle die, cut 16 orange print quarter triangles and 16 plaid triangles.

 

 

2. Using the 6” half square triangle die, cut 4 green half square triangles and 4 white half square triangles

 

 

3. Using the 3” x 6” rectangle die, cut 12 teal floral rectangles

Sewing Border 2

 

 

1. Sew each plaid quarter triangle to a corresponding orange print quarter triangle to yield 16 pairs of quarter triangles. Press the seam towards the orange print. Sew each quarter triangle pair to another quarter triangle pair to yield 8 quareter square units. Press the seams to one side.

2. Sew each green triangle to one white triangle for a total of 4 half square triangle units. Press the seams towards the green.

 

 

3. Arrange the Border 2 pieces around the Medallion as indicated in the photo.

4. Sew one teal floral rectangle between the two quarter square units of the left and right side borders. Press the seams towards the teal floral rectangles.

5. Sew an additional teal floral rectangle to each end of the border. Press the seams towards the teal floral rectangles.

 

 

6. Sew the side borders to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Press the seams towards the newly added borders.

7. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the top and bottom borders.

8. Sew one half square triangle unit to each end of the top and bottom borders. Press the seam towards the teal floral rectangles.

 

 

9. Sew the top and bottom borders to quilt top. Press the seams towards the newly added borders.

Cutting Border 3

 

 

1. Using the 3” square die, cut 8 orange print squares and 8 purple squares.

2. Using the 3” x 6” rectangle die, cut  16 navy dotted rectangles.

Sewing Border 3

 

 

1. Arrange the Border 3 pieces around the Medallion as indicated in the photo.

 

 

2. Sew the navy dotted rectangles to opposite sides of each purple square. Press the seams towards the navy dotted rectangles.

3. For the left and right side borders, sew an orange print square between the navy rectangle/purple square units. Press the seams towards the navy dotted rectangle.

 

 

4. Sew the left and right side borders to the quilt top. Press the seam towards the newly added borders.

5. For the top and bottom borders, sew an orange print square between the navy rectangle/purple square units and to each end of both borders. Press the seams towards the navy dotted rectangles.

 

 

6. Sew the top and bottom borders to the quilt top. Press the seam towards the newly added borders.

Borders 2 and 3 are complete! See you back here next month with the final border additions to our medallion quilt.
