Heaven's Angels Quilt with a Trapunto Quilting Effect

Hi, I'm Bea from Beaquilter! I'm here to show another tutorial/ project that's great for the Holidays coming up. For this project you'll need blue, yellow and white fabric as well as a fusible web, the GO! Angel and the GO! Flying Geese dies. Of course batting and backing too.

I started off by prepping some white fabric, enough to cut out 6 angels and tri-folded the fabrics to I'd get 3 with the wrong side up and 3 with the right side up.

Then I cut out 6 angels (3 are facing left and 3 are facing right)

I also did the same with 6 sets of wings in white

I cut out a piece of fabric 21 1/2" x 21 1/2" for the center and marked lines with a frixion pen to have 6 sections of the fabric (60 degrees)

Then I also measure where I would like the angels to be, how close to the center, making sure there was room for the wings and having them be far enough away from the edges too.

After I was happy with the placement, I removed the papers from the back and ironed them down. Notice that every other angel is facing to one side and also every other set of wings are going up or down.

I then pinned some batting to the whole thing.

With a matching yellow thread I button hole stitched around each angel ONLY! (not the wings)

Then with scissors (I like kid scissors with no points so I don't poke thru the fabric by accident) I cut around each angel and removed the rest of the batting.

Then I went back with white thread and button hole stitched around the wings.

With more blue fabric and matching yellow fabric I cut out enough flying geese sections to make 36 flying geese.

I sewed those around the center of the quilt as a border.

Then I quilted it with a dense design around the angels to make them pop out even more!

Here's a close up of the trapunto quilting effect.

The quilt measures 33" x 33" when done.

Hope you try it! (or at least try the trapunto quilting effect)
